DIRECTOR** (This is an assigned position).
The Camp Director is responsible for the overall programming and staffing for the camp they serve at. Prior to the camp, the Director prayerfully develops a schedule of activities and events usually centered around a theme. The camp speaker and director will often work together developing the theme of the camp and determining what message God is leading them to pass on to the campers. The director may also be in contact with kitchen staff and counsellors prior to the camp for any preparations required. Once the camp is happening, the director for the camp is on site full time, overseeing the operations of the camp and staff during that session, watching over the campers attending, and prayerfully leading all staff meetings.
SPEAKER** (This is an assigned position).
The speaker is responsible for a Christian program of chapel times throughout the duration of the camp they are serving at. In partnership with the director and under the guidance of God, the speaker provides the message that God is leading them to pass on to the campers. Speakers may also include devotion guides, memory verses and challenges, activities and events surrounding their speaking and individual support and guidance to campers seeking their help or wanting one on one guidance.
Counsellors serve at Bethel as front line staff with campers. Counsellors work in teams of 2-3 people and are assigned cabin groups (usually 10 or less campers to a cabin) as their responsibility for the duration of the camp. Counsellors are with their cabins full time including eating, sleeping, attending chapel, participating in activities and leading devotions. The most important job of a camp counsellor is to provide each of their campers with an opportunity to discuss their faith, ask questions and point them towards God. Many counsellors have been directly involved in helping lead campers to life in Christ. Counsellors are also asked to serve in specialized roles such as singers or musicians for chapel times or fireside, lifeguards, activity leaders and more. Being a camp counsellor is both greatly demanding and highly rewarding. Many lifelong friendships have been created between counsellors and their campers.
The head cook oversees the menu planning, meal preparation, serving and kitchen staff for the duration of the camp they serve at. Prior to the camp, the head cook is responsible for preparing a menu (including any special requests by the director of the camp) and submitting a grocery list to camp grocery buyer for purchase. Once camp is underway, the head cook oversees kitchen staff in the preparation of and serving of all meals according to the schedule provided by the director.
Under the direction of the head cook, kitchen helpers serve at Bethel Bible camp in the preparation and serving of meals to campers and staff. Tasks can include baking, cooking, food prep such as cleaning vegetables and items to be used in recipes, preparing individual portions, serving out food to campers, and cleaning kitchen items. Kitchen helpers are not required to be present at camp during the nights if they would rather come only during the days. However it should be noted that kitchen staff often work very long hours being up before everyone in order to have breakfast ready and preparations completed for the following day before going to bed at night. Serving in the kitchen at the heart of Bethel Bible Camp can be a great opportunity to spend time with friends (new and old), serving God and making a whole lot of smiling faces!
The chore leader is responsible for overseeing a crew of staff in the completion of all chores required at Bethel. Depending on the camp, the chore leader will lead a crew of chore helpers in chores such as washing dishes and clothes, cleaning floors and bathrooms, lighting fires, emptying garbage bins, supervising camper chores, serving out food and various other tasks as requested by the director or head cook. Chore leaders often have the opportunity to lead their crew in a daily devotional time and include their staff in chapel services.
Chore crew members are responsible, under the direction of the chore leader, to complete the chores of each camp they serve at. These chores may include washing dishes and clothes, cleaning floors and bathrooms, lighting fires, emptying garbage bins, supervising camper chores, serving out food and various other tasks as requested by the director or head cook. Chore crew are the backbone of each camp, helping the smooth operation of each camp by ensuring all necessary chores are done. As a chore member, you may be asked to participate in the ongoing camp programming from time to time as well.
The camp nurse is responsible for being the front line worker for the medical needs of staff and campers. The nurse is required to be at the camp they are serving at full time. They will be called upon in medical situations for assessment and determination of what treatment should be taken. The nurse will also help the director make the determination if a staff or camper requires further medical treatment and should be taken to see a doctor. All medications are handed in to the camp nurse who dispenses medications back to campers and staff as required by their prescriptions.
The Maintenance person, will be responsible for caring for the facility. This could include, fixing anything that breaks, mowing the lawn, replacing lights, replacing batteries, doing bigger projects such as: clearing out the trails, building something (as directed by a board member).
